A Small Tattoo Change, A Big Emotional Impact

David Beckham has made a quietly emotional gesture towards his estranged eldest son Brooklyn Beckham — even as the 26-year-old appears to be erasing physical reminders of his family ties.

Taking to Instagram, the 50-year-old football icon shared a series of nostalgic images from his personal archive, showing the football boots he wore throughout his legendary career. Among them were pairs bearing Brooklyn’s name, alongside those of his younger sons Romeo and Cruz — a subtle but unmistakable nod to family pride.

The post came just days after reports emerged that Brooklyn had undergone laser treatment to remove a tattoo tribute to his father, in what insiders believe is the latest painful sign of the deepening family rift. Brooklyn was recently seen stepping out in Los Angeles with his wife, actress and heiress Nicola Peltz, with the altered inking visible on his right arm.

The tattoo had previously featured an anchor with the word “Dad” at its centre, alongside the words “Love you Bust”. It is now thought to have been redesigned, with the lettering removed and replaced by abstract shapes — an apparent attempt to erase the original meaning.

A source claimed Brooklyn had actively wanted the tribute gone, saying the pain behind the decision made it impossible to continue carrying such a symbol. It is also believed to follow an earlier move to cover a chest tattoo dedicated to his mother, which once read “mama’s boy”.

Yet while Brooklyn distances himself, David appears unwilling to let go. Alongside the boot collection, he has continued to wear his own tribute — the “Buster” tattoo inked on his neck in honour of his eldest son — and has previously spoken with pride about all four of his children.

The emotional contrast underscores the growing divide between father and son, particularly after Brooklyn’s explosive public statement last month in which he ruled out reconciliation. In the post, Brooklyn accused his parents of controlling family narratives for the sake of image and brand, insisting he had finally chosen peace by stepping away.

While Brooklyn now focuses on building a future in the US with Nicola — with reports suggesting the couple are planning to adopt a child — David’s latest post suggests that, at least from one side, the door to fatherly love has never been closed.
