Coronation Street viewers are furious — and they say they have every right to be.
Debbie Webster has now been sent to prison following the devastating Corriedale crash, charged with drink driving and causing the death of Billy Mayhew. But as the storyline unfolds, fans insist the verdict makes absolutely no sense — and that Debbie is being punished for a crime she did not commit.
Across social media, viewers are pointing to three major facts they believe have been completely ignored — facts that would have stopped Debbie’s prosecution in its tracks.
1. Debbie Didn’t Cause the Crash in the First Place
Fans have been quick to rewind events and question how Debbie ended up carrying the blame when she wasn’t responsible for triggering the accident.
The chain reaction began when Becky Swain, distracted by a phone call from Carla, crashed into Aaron and John Sugden’s car. Crucially, John had deliberately caused his own crash in an attempt to stop Aaron from shooting him.
In other words, the disaster was already in motion long before Debbie and Carl arrived at the scene.

The minibus then collided with vehicles ahead due to actions involving Carla and Kit. Debbie and Carl’s car was behind and simply crashed into the minibus when there was nowhere else to go.
Many viewers argue that, drunk or not, the collision was unavoidable — making Debbie’s charge deeply questionable.
One baffled fan wrote online:
“Debbie didn’t cause the Corriedale crash at all. Becky and John did. Debbie and Carl were among the last cars involved — and only because the road ahead was already chaos. So why on earth is Debbie the one being blamed?”
2. There’s No Forensic Proof She Was Driving
While Carl attempted to frame his mother by dragging her unconscious body into the driver’s seat, fans say the basic forensic evidence would never support that claim.
Most notably, Debbie’s fingerprints were not found on the steering wheel — something viewers believe would immediately have raised red flags during a routine police investigation.

In a fatal crash, forensic teams would also examine the airbags and interior for DNA and hand placement — yet the storyline appears to ignore this entirely.
As one viewer pointed out:
“This was a crash involving a death. The steering wheel and airbags would have been checked straight away. No fingerprints = no case.”
3. The Injuries Don’t Match the Story
Perhaps the most glaring inconsistency, fans argue, is the lack of attention paid to seatbelt injuries.
Both Debbie and Carl were taken to hospital following the crash, where they would have been medically examined. In serious collisions, seatbelt marks often reveal who was actually driving.
Viewers insist that Carl would have shown injuries consistent with being behind the wheel — while Debbie would not.
Yet this crucial detail appears to have been completely overlooked.
One frustrated fan wrote:
“How were the seatbelt marks not documented at the hospital? That alone would have shown Debbie wasn’t the driver. It makes no sense at all.”
