Just days after Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested over suspicions of misconduct in public office, the spotlight shifted to the red carpet as Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales made a striking appearance at the 2026 EE BAFTA Film Awards.
Arriving at Royal Festival Hall in London, the Prince and Princess of Wales looked composed and coordinated, presenting a calm and united front during what has become one of the most turbulent weeks for the Royal Family in recent years.

Catherine dazzled in a dusty pink Gucci gown she first wore in 2019 at the 100 Women in Finance gala supporting mental health in schools. The elegant recycled dress was elevated with a deep maroon belt, perfectly matched to William’s blazer — a subtle but deliberate show of unity. She completed the look with silver jewellery and her signature loose, voluminous curls.
The engagement marked the couple’s first joint public appearance since Andrew’s dramatic arrest. While tensions continue to ripple through the monarchy, the pair appeared relaxed, smiling warmly as they greeted guests and took their front-row seats.

Meanwhile, King Charles III issued an unprecedented statement hours after Andrew was detained, confirming his “wholehearted support and co-operation” with the investigation. He added firmly: “What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities. Let me state clearly: the law must take its course.” William and Kate are understood to fully support the King’s position.
Inside the ceremony — hosted by Alan Cumming — the couple chatted animatedly with BAFTA executives and Hollywood stars, including Rose Byrne and Hannah Waddingham.

Speaking about the emotional Best Picture nominee Hamnet, William admitted he had yet to watch it, explaining: “I need to be in quite a calm state and I am not at the moment. I will save it.” Catherine, however, revealed she had watched it the night before and was left overwhelmed. She joked, “I thought it was a bad idea, actually. Ended up with very puffy eyes.”
She praised the film’s presentation of “intergenerational grief” and added, “It was so beautifully shot. The music as well. The score is fantastic.” Reflecting on family life, she shared that Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are now taking a greater interest in cinema, saying films are “a really great way to have some of the hard conversations with them.”

The Princess has not attended the BAFTAs for the past two years while recovering from cancer treatment, making this appearance all the more significant. Seated in the front row, the royal couple laughed along to light-hearted moments during the ceremony and appeared determined to keep the focus on British film — not royal controversy.
