DWP APOLOGISES BUT STILL NO COMPENSATION FOR WASPI WOMEN 💷⚖️ The Department for Work and Pensions has responded after 60,000 people backed a petition demanding payouts for Women Against State Pension Inequality. Ministers apologised for delays in sending state pension age letters but confirmed they will not pay compensation recommended by the Ombudsman. Campaigners argue the apology falls short of justice for millions of 1950s-born women who say they suffered financial and emotional hardship.

DWP issues NEW WASPI update after 60,000 back compensation petition

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has issued a compensation update after a petition demanded a Labour Party government “apology” and money for WASPI women.

The DWP has issued a statement in response to a petition which racked up 60,000 signatures. In it, the WASPI campaigners say: “We ask Government to deliver a fair, timely, fully transparent apology that reflects ALL evidence based on what we think constitutes maladministration and discrimination; and addresses the financial, emotional and personal hardship experienced by 1950s women caused by pension changes.

“Many 1950s-born women have faced lifelong and historic discrimination, compounded by the Government’s failure to properly communicate State Pension Age changes.

“DWP Ministers have listened only to a group representing a fraction of those affected, leaving others feeling ignored.

“As many campaign groups unite, we think it is unacceptable that the Government continues to silence the majority. After decades of inequality, accountability and action are long overdue.”
